Embrace the Real You

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

Find yourself--your smile, your laugh, your testimony, your passions, your attributes--and hold those things close to your heart. Weave them into your soul and be confident in what makes you YOU. You are divine, you are God's, and with that bravery of standing as uniquely you, you can take the world by surprise and will stand out.

Finding your inner you is a strength and a struggle. Constantly, we're battling so many things around us that hinder our ability to be ourselves. Social media, television, magazines, and advertisements are only some of the many resources which hinder our ability to see ourselves as who we really are. Comparing is also a huge one. Non-stop, we go through the same list of "why I'm not..." as we judge ourselves with others. We drown our esteem in a pool of lies.

If only we could see the divinity of our unique selves! We are beloved sons and daughters of God, created each uniquely and individually, but in His image. Embrace that!

I love this passage in Jeffery R. Hollands talk, To Young Women (which you can find HERE):

"[I encourage you] to please be more accepting of yourselves, including your body shape and style, with a little less longing to look like someone else. We are all different. Some are tall, and some are short. Some are round, and some are thin. And almost everyone at some time or other wants to be something they are not! But as one adviser to teenage girls said: “You can’t live your life worrying that the world is staring at you. When you let people’s opinions make you self-conscious you give away your power. … The key to feeling [confident] is to always listen to your inner self—[the real you.]” And in the kingdom of God, the real you is “more precious than rubies.”

Through life, we have struggles--ups and downs--but I encourage you to find who you are and embrace who you are. Find the REAL you and ultimately, don't try to be someone you're not. Avoid the fake distractions of the world; don't compare. You are divine. You have a great destiny. You're beautiful. You are made in God's image.

With love,

Makenzie Monson
