Lighten

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

I know this sounds unique in a way, but I think lightbulbs are adorable, especially the ones that have a vintage, orange look. I love their round heads and how they produce such a sweetness and warmth to the setting around them. They add character to every setting and I am always fascinated by the special way they glow. Right as you flip the switch, they light up, dispersing the darkness.

Think of someone who lights you up with an eagerness or spark about life. Think of someone, who, like this lightbulb, glows with a beautiful light of warmth and color. I can think of many. Who shines for the world to see?

Those who glow are examples. They're standards, set apart differently and individually than anyone else, just as in the scripture, "a city set on a hill cannot be hid." Those who shine, live differently. And they find joy in their life. They find joy in who they are, where they came from, and what they're meant to do. Those who glow aren't scared, because they walk by faith and hope. They are productive with their lives in every way, putting God first in every circumstance. They understand the verse, "I Am the Light of the World," and seek to follow it. They glow with purity, knowledge, and joy because they follow the footsteps of their forefathers. And they always "seek to improve each day".

How can you be a light? How can you be a beacon and example for all to recognize, illuminating the innocent light of Christ? First, you can create daily habits to strengthen your light, such as a gratitude journal, scripture study, prayer journal, and service activity. Follow the footsteps of good leaders, and stand in holy places. Share your light by serving constantly and always talk of Christ. Continually have a smile and a laugh which can caress happily to others to inspire. Notice everyone and love everyone in God's eyes. Lastly, always remember to be who you are. "Be an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity," and you will be able to illuminate your light wherever you walk. God will be with you and you will GLOW, just like the adorable vintage lightbulbs!

President Monson once said, "To all who are here today, I say, “Look inside yourself. You are more than what you have become. Remember who you are.” You are a son or daughter of our Heavenly Father. You have come from His presence to live on this earth for a season and to live in such a way that you are an example of the believers and a true light to the world. When that season has ended, you will be able to return to live with Him once again. May this be your blessing as you nurture your testimony and as you follow the example set for you and for all of us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, “the true Light, which lighteth every man [and woman] that cometh into the world.” Of Him I testify: He is our Savior and our Redeemer, our Advocate with the Father. He is our Exemplar and our strength. He is the light that shineth in darkness. That each of us here today may pledge to follow Him and to be His lights among men and women is my prayer."" You can LIGHTEN the world!
